Speed vs features

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

A while back something happened with bridell.com, and loading a page - any page -  suddenly took ages. I couldn’t really find the strength and time to fix it (especially since loading the administration pages was just as slow…) and that’s why I haven’t been updating the site. Now at least it looks like the speed is as it used to be, but on the other hands some stuff is not working at all now.

So, the site is back, but crippled. I hope to fix it. So stay tuned.

Fringe.nu goes live

 Fringe.nu blog

I’ve been working on the Fringe.nu site for a while, transforming the old site into a Wordpress-driven site. Tonight we flicked the switch and put it online. Go and have a look (and tell me if you find stuff that’s broken…). It’s at http://fringe.nu, just like before.

Lecture at Physical Computing course - handouts

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Yesterday I spent two hours talking to the students at a physical computing course at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). I talked about what physical computing (i.e. the art of “sensing and controlling the physical world with computers”, to quote Don O’Sullivan and Tom Igoe) has to to with art.

I argue that the concept of interactivity is lurking there somewhere in the intersection of physcomp and art. But what is this thing called interactivity, anyway? And indeed, what is art?

Then I went on showing a bunch of examples of new media art pieces, and finally some of the stuff we’ve been doing at the Art & Technology Program, as well as talking a bit about the tools we’ve been using.

Here are the PDFs of the handouts (which were not actually handed out…)

  1. handout: Physical Computing and Art
  2. handout: New Media Art
  3. handout: Art & Technology backstage

New site

Friday, January 11th, 2008

Tonight I finally got round to put the Wordpress-driven site online and remove all stuff from the old site.  Enjoy. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, just mail me.

One of those days…

I just heard John mumbling quietly to himself: “Today is one of those days when I’m talking to myself…”

No arguing with that.

Je ne spam pas

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Last week I got loads of what looks like bounces for spam being sent with a sender address something@bridell.com. (Where something includes Largent-Coxwell, mosab.matza, porkwt, Ruquiyah_Hertel and other inventive aliases).

For anybody trying to track them down: I certainly did not send these, and I think if you look carefully you’ll find they’re not actually coming from bridell.com. My guess is somebody just spoofed the sender address. There’s not much I can do about that.

Not a blog blog

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

As you can see bridell.com is now a blog. Or at least, it’s powered by a Wordpress blog.

I have no intention of becoming a famous “blogger” - all this means is that it’s now a little easier for me to put stuff online. And the stuff is most likely going to be in the crossroads of art, media, technology and generally geeky stuff. I don’t know yet.
